This year the Venetian Carnival in Annecy has reached its 20th edition. Annecy is a city in the French Alps, which used to be an important destination for Italian immigrants. They brought with them, among others also the nostalgia of the great Italian events. Being a city crossed by a few channels it was most likely to be compared with the Venice and called “The Venice of the Alps”. In 1996 an Italian association has initiated the use of Venetian costumes and masks during the festival, which took place annually in Annecy. Since then, the number of masks and costumes has grown and the event has become one of the well known festivals of this kind in the region. They say that during those two days in which the parade of masked people on the streets, along the channels from the old town center, is taking place, over 350 costumes and Venetian suits can be seen.
If you want to admire the beauty of the costumes from Annecy and to discover the charm of the alpine old town, I invite you to see my photo collection (in progress) of images from this lovely city.
Also, if you want to discover the distinction of Annecy costumes from those from Venice you can explore the collection of masks and costumes during the Venice Carnival.
