Night wet illuminated street in Kyoto, Japan.
This image was shot many years ago. The location is quite near the Gion, the ward of geisha. There are such cobbled streets between wooden tea houses. I enjoyed very much to walk there during the night and to feel the spirit of the old Japan. However some of my most living memories from these streets are not visual. They are related to the sounds and…smell. The atmosphere was saturated with the smell of the burning incenses and discrete music of the strings of the shamisen or koto coming from inside of the houses.Because the streets are quite narrow the air there was very warm. All these elements, the music, the smell, the warm air, and the brown color of the wooden walls of the houses, create a piece of what is amazing in Japan.
